What qualities are most important to you in a friend? Describe the ideal friend.
The most important qualities to me in a friend is someone I can count on to be there when I need them, someone to make me laugh when I feel gloomy, give advice when I need it, hang out and have a good time, be just as crazy as me and ready for adventures, understand my point of view on things, and tell me the truth even if they think it's going to hurt my feelings. It's okay to have different opinions and beliefs than someone else but I guess that's what makes us all unique and different on the outside and inside.

Survivor: The Simpsons
Discuss the similarities and differences to the first chapter of the novel. Why do you think the writers/producers made those changes?
Similarities:
- the kids were stranded on an island
- they both lost the pilot/bus driver
- they found fruit
- tried to start a fire with glasses
Differences:
- one was a bus the other was a plane that crashed
- they had to swim to the island while the plane crashed on the island
- it was boys and girls
- they swung on a vine to cross over the cliff
I think the writer/producer made these changes to make it more interesting and different from the book so it wasn't exactly the same. They might want a different take on things like in the book they crashed on the island while in the video clip they had to swim to get to safety.
Racism and Stereotypes in Advertising
What images shocked or bothered you the most? What is your reaction to the more recent stereotypes? Have we changed? Can you find any other stereotypes that impact your age group?
The images that shocked me or bothered me the most were the images being advertised by African-Americans like; cream of wheat, pancakes, jello, and double rich bourbon as well as using Natives to advertise an electric hair brush. These images bother me because we also eat pancakes and jello not just African- Americans and Natives for this reasoning I think they should have some Candian advertisment as we also use these products in Canada.
My reaction to the more recent stereotypes is that I found there were a lot more guys advertising thing in magazines like Steve Nash who is advertising basketball which leads to bringing your A game. Why don't they have a female basketball player advertising it? Something else I also noticed is when it said that Afican-Americans are being advertised in a more angry and frightening matter.
No, I don't think we have changed because when you look at magazines today like sports magazines they are mostly males advertising something. Example; underarmour. However, hockey today isn't just males playing it, it is also females as well.
Other stereotypes that impact my age group is when we are choosing courses for our future jobs down the road. For example; doctor, nurse, firefighter, hair dresser etc...
